Security vs. Anxiety: Structuring my life around that which is eternal and cannot be destroyed or taken away. – John 6:27
What is there in this world that is solid? That cannot be taken away from us?
God’s Grace. God’s Word. It’s forever.
We have to focus our lives on living God’s way instead of Man’s way. Man’s way is unstable and unsure. On the other hand, God’s way is steadfast and true. It’s graceful and eternal.
Many of us struggle from not having enough stability in our life. Our actions are not consistent; we don’t even fully understand why we act. If we choose to follow Christ, then we will be granted with the stability we need. Seemingly huge problems now will work themselves out. All by His mighty power!
“I took the one {the road} less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference”- Robert Frost
And that has made all the difference”- Robert Frost
On Tuesday the 8th graders at the middle school I work at went on a field trip. I was not supposed to go, but they were short a chaperone and since I’m only an assistant teacher and don’t have an actual class, I went along. We went to this place in Indiana called Conner Prairie, to experience an Underground Railroad simulation.
Let me just say, it was fantastic. It was such a great experience and it seemed to be a very accurate representation of what slaves went through in the 1800’s. The only difference was that it was just a simulation. In an hour it would be over and we would be on our way back to school. No one was truly fearful, but in reality, slaves had plenty to fear.
We all know slavery is wrong. Right? It was wrong that they could never feel truly secure or be treated with dignity and respect just because of the part of the world they came from! However, some of the greatest faiths in God come from hardship. If you don’t experience something challenging, where you are saved by God’s grace alone, it is more likely that you will be anxious and not fully trusting in Christ.
During part of our adventure, we went to the home of some Quakers. The Quakers {a.k.a. Friends} explained that they wanted to help us {slaves}. They said they did not follow Man’s ways, but God’s ways. They knew that it was their responsibility to help others, to love thy neighbor no matter their skin pigmentation. 200+ years ago, Quakers really did risk their lives to help slaves get to freedom. They knew in was wrong, and they had enough faith in God to know they would be kept safe.
I’m pretty sure none of us are Quakers, but I think we should adopt the Quaker attitude! They were kind, honest, gentle people who knew God’s word and wanted to follow only it. They were not a bit unsure about helping people.
We should all realize that our life is not our own. It belongs to Christ. We are merely here to carry out His wishes for us. So let’s carry them out! Let’s be fearless, courageous, strong, loving, and generous without worrying about anything else. We are safe with Him, because He will never leave us!
The LORD himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged." – Deuteronomy 31:8

Lovely post!
ReplyDeleteActually I am a Quaker (ok - *not officially*, I'm not technically a member - yet - but I do attend meeting when I can and have considered myself one in my heart for years!). I love your blog - your Rescued Angels tugs at my heart!
Blessings,
Lisa (from the catacombs society ;-)
